Mt Assiniboine Trek - 4 Days
Description:
The Crowning Jewel of the southern Canadian Rockies and an unparalleled trekking destination, Mt Assiniboine is a must visit destination for any visitor to the south central Rockies. At 3600m of elevation, Mt. Assiniboine and the Mt Assiniboine Provincial Park are reached by short helicopter trip from Canmore or Kananaskis country, landing near Lake Magog at the foot of Mt Assiniboine Lodge. Two nights of accommodation at the Mt Assiniboine Lodge or the rustic Naiset Huts give adventurers the chance to explore the incredible surrounding mountain panoramas. Included in this trip are two nights accommodation at the Lodge (double room occupancy meals included) and one night stay the the Bryant Creek wilderness shelter. Your personal guide is also included in order to allow you to properly and fully explore this breathtaking area. From the lodge, there are countless day trips through a mountain landscape of grizzlies, marmots, and bighorn sheep. your guide will recommend the best routes.
An alternative for budget conscious travellers are the Naiset Huts. these are group shared rustic, but beautiful and cozy log style huts, and or either well outfitted three season tents.

Itinerary
Day 1
Mt Shark - Bryant Creek Shelter:
From Banff it is approximately 20 km to Canmore and from Canmore a n additional 50 km over gravel roads to Mt. Shark our starting point for the Mount Assiniboine Park. From the staging area we gear up and start our adventure up to the crown Jewel of the Southern Rockies. The distance on the first day is only approximately 14 km and is characterized by easy walking on a wide and straight forward trail through sup-alpine forest the trail remains easy and straightforward. Our g0al for the evening is the Bryant Creek Shelter. Although a rustic and simple shelter, it offers everything a hiker needs including beds and warm wood stove.

Day 2
Day 2: Bryant Creek Shelter - Mt Assiniboine Lodge:
Today we commence our ascent up to Lake Magog along the Bryant creek Valley. The trail winds its way thru subalpine meadows and fir forest to the top of Assiniboine Pass. Descending down the other side of the pass it is only a few more kilometres to Lake Magog at the foot of Mt. Assiniboine (The Matterhorn of the Canadian Rockies). Arrival by late afternoon; depending on the option, you can check in at Mt. Assiniboine Lodge or set up base camp in one of the five Naiset Huts. Mt. Assiniboine Lodge (with full catering) offers unique log house style comfort in an incredible mountain landscape. The Naiset Huts are simple but charming hiking lodgings. In the afternoon a half-day hike up to Wonder Pass may be possible

Day 3
Day 3: Mt. Nub Peak:
Full day hike up to the Nublet with possible continuation up to Nub Peak. From the Naiset Huts, it is approximately one hour on foot along the shores of Lake Magog, past Sunburst and Cerulean Lake. Slowly the hiking trail rises from the fir forest to the high ridge of Nub Ridge (about 350 meters). Here, hikers get one of the most breathtaking views of Mount Assiniboine including Lake Magog and Cerulean Lake. Continuing along Nub Ridge travellers will reach the Nublet and Nub Peak (2740m). With 360 degree view of the surrounding Mt Assiniboine Park this is an unparalleled view point. In the evening, enjoy a well deserved meal and the charming atmosphere of Mt Assiniboine Lodge.

Day 4
Day 4: Mt Assiniboine - Return Mt Shark:
After a leisurely breakfast, a short helicopter ride brings us back to the Mt. Shark staging area. Depending on the schedule a short hike up to Wonder Pass in the morning may be possible. From Mt. Shark we return shuttle to either Canmore or Banff. In the evening celebration dinner with you guide!
